A critical moment now exists, when we expand our mission from CARE to CURE.

Precision medicine takes into account individual that pinpoint in genes, environment, and lifestyle factors when deciding the most effective course of treatment. Clinical trials are a foundational part of this process, and often offer personalized treatment options not utilized in a traditional community hospital setting. As part of our commitment to expert precision medicine, the Ann B. Barshinger Cancer Institute has established a Clinical Research Unit (CRU).

The Ann B. Barshinger Cancer Institute CRU works directly with the Abramson Cancer Center at Penn Philadelphia so that patients in Lancaster have access to world-class cancer clinical trials. Additionally, we work with pharmaceutical companies and national cooperative research groups to bring promising new therapies to people with lung, breast, gynecologic, brain, gastrointestinal, and other cancers – right here in Lancaster.

In order to achieve our vision of every cancer patient being screened for a clinical trial, the Ann B. Barshinger Cancer Institute must expand its team of experienced cancer research professionals, including regulatory, analytic, nursing, and physician specialists. These efforts will provide hope – allowing us to cure cancer patients today and providing a pathway to cure patients in the future.

Join Us!

Community support will help us build the infrastructure to expand the availability of research and treatment clinical trials that offer today’s patients the promise of improvement and cure, while taking part in vital research that will benefit tomorrow’s cancer patients.

Hope For All

Mark was diagnosed with stage 4 lung cancer in October of 2018. He was given the option to participate in a clinical trial at Ann B. Barshinger Cancer Institute. He enrolled in the trial in December 2018 and began his two-year treatment. Mark and his wife, Laura, came every three weeks for 24 months and developed a close relationship with their oncology team.

The clinical trial that Mark participated in resulted in the FDA approval of a new drug regimen for lung cancer patients. Mark completed his treatment in December 2020 with promising results and is currently in observation. He looks forward to spending more time with his family.
